I got this game for my 14th birthday in 1998. It was the first real racing game I ever had. I had in the last year become a Formula 1 Fan. To this day, this is still the toughest racing game I have ever played. Considering it was released in 1996, at which time the public use of the internet and email were still in a primitive stage, and Personal Computers were not to be found in the vast majority of homes as they are today, this game is nothing short of groundbreaking.

IMPORTANT NOTE
The game won't work on it's own on Windows 7 or higher. It's that annoying thing about "32 bit" programs not working on "64 bit" operating systems (MAN THAT IS ANNOYING WHEN THAT MESSAGE COMES UP; DO THEY NOT APPRECIATE THAT SOME OF US LIKE RETRO GAMES?)
The answer is to use something like D-FEND Reloaded. It's like DOSBOX but easier to use (I can't figure out Dosbox). It's freeeeeee so get it here. There's also an add-on which is supposed to do something, so download that too.

D-FEND RELOADED "Tutorial"
Ok, if you're not an advanced user (I don't think I am) and haven't used D-Fend Reloaded, it can be tricky having a clue what to do. So I'll TRY and help. Most of the stuff on the program I never actually use. It's actually quite simple if you just concentrate on the bits you need.
1.Download, install and open the program (come on, you can DO that)
2.Once D-FEND Reloaded has been opened, Press "F3" or the "add" button to locate the program you are looking for (GP2)
3.On the window that pops up, just click "Next" down the bottom.
4.On the next window, you only need to bother with the top "program to be started" bar. Click the button on the end to find the file.
5.All you HAVE to do then is keep pressing "Next" at the bottom of each window until it becomes "OK". Press that and it's done.
6.Now it's loaded on the main page. Click that each time to start GP2.
Just repeat that for any program.

RESULTS
All qualifying is 1 lap showdown over 2 sessions (so 2 chances) Points = 25,18,15,12,10,8,6,4,2,1
All races are at 25% distance.
Round 1 - Mugello (Italy) - 18 laps
Grid 15th
Running well in the points on lap 6, ran wide at turn 3 and car goes hugely out of shape. I manage to control, but because the laptop volume is turned right down, I'm unable to hear that the car hasn't gripped yet. I relaxed back into normal driving mode failing to realise the car hadn't stabilised yet. The car did a 360 spin. Martin Semerad was unable to avoid me and we both crashed out. A disappointing start to the season for both of us. Race won by Patrik Flodin.
Result: DNF
Round 2 - Issoire (France) - 21 laps
Grid 26th
Somehow in both quali sessions unable to set any time at all, so start from the very back! I'm making real progress in the race climbing up the field, only for the game to suddenly minimize to desktop as the laptop was running out of battery power. The game continued without my control. By the time I'd got it back the car had crashed into the wall at the final turn at the end of the back straight. Unfortunately I'd lost my front left wheel! But since I was near the pit entrance I managed to crawl to the pits for repairs. This dropped me right back, well over a lap down. So now I had to charge. There just weren't enough laps left and though I was aided by many retirements in front of me and some good pace, I finished just out of the points in 11th. I was very disappointed not to have scored any points, but surprisingly, Hayden Paddon had also by now scored two DNFs. Race won by Patrik Flodin.
Result: 11th
Round 3: Edmonton (Canada) - 16 laps
Grid 26th
Amazingly I had managed to set no qualifying time for the second race in a row to start from the back on this airport track I'd never driven. I was very pleased with my pace as I seemed to get quicker and quicker making inroads. I was flying in the second half of the race, with my confidence increasing, picking off cars left and right. Into the final lap I was menacing Jukka Ketomaki for 4th but missed a couple of attempts to pass because of backmarkers etc. In the end I finished RIGHT on his tail, less than 0.1sec off! Overall a satisfying drive to score my first points of the season. Flodin's perfect results were ended as he retired, and Paddon got his first score by winning.
Result: 5th
Round 4: Puebla (Mexico) - 20 laps
Grid 9th
I had won this race before. This track featured for both rounds 3 and 4 in my test season. I had finished 10th first time round, but having made 2 pit stops I realised things looked good indeed. I duly won the second race. This is a tight and twisty track, so I am able to take great advantage in the front-runners getting massively held up behind backmarkers. I made a great start and unlike my previous two visits entered turn one much more gingerly, to not cause a collision and accrue a penalty (which I give myself by pitting, also stopping at the actual pitbox for 10sec but getting fresh tryes). This time I jumped from 9th to 3rd and managed to hound 2nd place on merit, taking it towards the end of the lap. This put me in a great battle for the lead with Anders Grondal. The two of us matched each other and were only a second or so apart. None of us gave anything away, and as the others behind tangled with each other and experienced problems, we increasingly pulled away in a class of our own. I kept as consistent as possible, biding my time, trying hard not to make mistakes on this tricky and twisty track, and waiting to lap the backmarkers as I knew I would get past much better than the AI car of Grondal. This I did, but I never pulled out a gap of more than 3sec as I got terribly sloppy and complacent knowing I can win, and I lazily slipped off the track on several occassions. I held on to win by a few seconds though, as I did last year. There was a huge gap to 3rd in the end, which was eventually filled by a recovering Flodin.
Result: 1st
Aw no I hadn't saved the game so I had to do Round 4 again
Grid 4th
Paddon and the two Top Run Subarus of Flodin and Ligato started ahead of me. Benito Guerra got a fantastic start to run alongside me into turn 1, but I held him off and took position behind Paddon, Flodin and Ligato who maintained their start order. We gradually edged out into a pack of 4. Paddon was goin very well, but I got past Ligato on merit and set fastest lap early on, to my surprise. I held this to the end, +0.1sec faster than Paddon and Flodin, and way faster than the rest. Paddon edged away from this 4 car group and I edged nearer to Flodin, pulling away from his team-mate Ligato. Then Paddon spun and dropped down the field. Now Flodin and I fought a tense battle for the lead, which I took when we came upon backmarkers at the end of lap 9. Now I was leading the race, but my tyres were going off like crazy in this long 20 lap race. They went off even more when I suffered a sudden puncture coming up to turn 4! I spun round the tight turn 4, allowing Ligato through too. It took a long time to straighten up and crawl round to the pits. Amazingly, I stayed in 3rd place the whole time, such was the huge gap that I had built. Though I dropped to 7th exiting the pits. I set about picking cars off and eventually took 3rd back, but then Flodin pitted with problems from the lead. He was still 25sec ahead of me though, but was unable to catch Ligato, finishing 6sec behind. Winner - Ligato.
Result: 3rd
And that is all for now. The next race is at Sharpnack, Sweden, which I won well in my test season. I am very confident.
Round 5 - Sharpnack (Sweden)
Grid 9th
Not exactly what I hoped for. I tried a long 1st gear which was a terrible choice. I was passed by Paddon and Arai early on. Running 7th, I was unable to keep up with the group ahead. But Paddon retired to continue his tough season. Kosciuszko and Arai, who were running 4th and 5th both spun at turn 4 at the same time! Kosciuszko quickly recovered to maintain his position, but Arai was smashed into by the lapped Louise Cook and both DNF'd. It was a disappointing off the pace result in this tougher season. But I was actually very fortunate to finish as I smashed into Valeriy Gorban who spun and was lapped. He lost a wheel and retired, but somehow my engine kept running...
